Who am I?
They called me the enigma
The nebula they cannot understand
The pendulum in their dilemma
The Gazelle on a quick-sand
The question hopping in their eye
Asking me: Who am I?
They don't know am the new poet
Out of Nigeria's eastern forest
Spinning verses of great weight
Knotting Odes, Satires and the rest
My cup is holding the Muse's Rye
When they asked: Who am I?
I am the Igbo Boy they know
Who is born and bred in the slum
Who had not seen the snow
But I have drunk the muse rum
And my word will not die
Yet they ask: Who am I?
I am the Son of Nwankwo
The planter of the Yam
The backbone of the status Quo
Who Muse took in his arm
I am not a saucer out of sky
So do not ask: Who am I?
